WOLF, RIFKIN, SHAPIRO, SCHULMAN & RABKIN, LLP, ATTORNEY JORDAN BUTLER OBTAINS P-3 VISA APPROVALS FOR FIVE LUCHA LIBRE WRESTLERS FROM MEXICO

Jordan Butler, a partner in the Las Vegas office at Wolf, Rifkin, Shapiro, Schulman & Rabkin, recently obtained P-3 Visa approvals for five Lucha Libre wrestlers or “fighters” from Mexico in order for the fighters to perform the culturally unique art of Mexican Lucha Libre in the United States.

The P-3 visa classification applies to artists or entertainers who are temporarily coming to the U.S. to perform, teach or coach under a program or event that is culturally unique.

Mexican Lucha Libre is a form of performance entertainment, sport, and storytelling that is widely considered an integral part of the fabric of Mexico’s national culture and identity. Originally developed in the late 1800s, Mexican Lucha Libre initially combined aspects of freestyle wrestling with Greco-Roman wrestling and has since evolved into a unique art form characterized by colorful masks, rapid sequences of holds and maneuvers, and high-flying, acrobatic aerial moves.

The wearing of masks by Lucha Libre wrestlers, or “fighters,” is a distinguished trademark of Mexican Lucha Libre, which carries special significance and serves to maintain a sense of mystery and nostalgia surrounding the fighters.

On behalf of the firm’s client, Center Stage Entertainment, Mr. Butler successfully established that Mexican Lucha Libre was culturally unique and that the proposed fighters, beneficiaries of the P-3 visa petition, possessed the skills, training, and experience necessary to perform and further the development and understanding of the art form in the United States.
