WOLF, RIFKIN, SHAPIRO, SCHULMAN & RABKIN, LLP, ATTORNEY JORDAN BUTLER OBTAINS O-1 VISA FOR greek TENNIS STAR maria sakkari

Jordan Butler, an attorney at Wolf, Rifkin, Shapiro, Schulman & Rabkin, recently obtained approval for an O-1 Extraordinary Ability Visa on behalf of Greek professional tennis player Maria Sakkari. Ms. Sakkari is a critically acclaimed international athlete who has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the world. In addition to her impressive on-court accomplishments, the petition focused on Ms. Sakkari’s significant accolades and contributions away from the court, including her role as an ambassador for non-profit organization DESMOS, which supports charitable causes aimed at providing skills and training to help younger generations in the workplace.
Ms. Sakkari, who alongside her male counterpart Giannis Antetokounmpo, was named Greece’s Athlete of the Year in 2021, has also been honored by the WTA as the recipient of the Jerry Diamond ACES Award, a distinguished player service award that recognizes a player’s impact in promoting the sport to fans, media and local communities.

O-1 non-immigrant visas are issued to nationally and internationally renowned applicants who possess extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business or sports, as established by specific criteria demonstrating that the individual has reached a level of expertise indicating that she is among a small percentage of individuals who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor.
